Regulatory compliance

CMMC and NIST SP 800-171 compliance for defense suppliers

ALCON DTS helps defense suppliers get ready for CMMC and stay ready. We assess your systems against NIST SP 800-171, help you build the system security plan and plan of action, close the gaps, and run the technical controls every day so your evidence stays current. You keep the compliance decisions. We run the technical controls.

Who it’s for

Built for companies that handle defense contract information

CMMC applies when a Department of Defense contract or subcontract asks for it and your company handles Federal Contract Information (FCI) or Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) on its own systems. We work with:

  • Manufacturers, machine shops, and engineering firms that supply defense primes
  • Subcontractors whose prime has flowed down CMMC or DFARS 7012 requirements
  • Companies that see DFARS 7012, 7019, 7020, 7021, 7025, or the newer 252.240-7997 (a DoD class deviation clause) in a solicitation or purchase order
  • Companies that need a current SPRS score before their next bid or renewal
  • Organizations with IT staff of their own who want a partner for the CMMC work
  • Multi-site companies that need one security standard at every location

What ALCON DTS does

From first assessment to assessment day

We start with what your contracts require and where your contract information lives, then build and run the program with you.

Readiness and gap assessment

We review the systems that handle CUI against the 110 requirements in NIST SP 800-171 Revision 2, the version CMMC Level 2 uses today. You get clear findings, a draft score, and a prioritized list of what to close first. For companies that handle only FCI, we review the Level 1 safeguards.

System security plan and plan of action support

We help you write a system security plan (SSP) that describes how your environment actually runs, and a plan of action and milestones (POA&M) that tracks open items to closeout. You review and approve both.

Remediation

We close the gaps on identity and access, devices, email, logging, backups, and network segmentation. That includes keeping shop floor and production systems apart from office IT when they are part of your environment, and writing the procedures that match.

Ongoing controls and evidence

On your ALCON DTS plan, we run the controls every day and keep the evidence current: access reviews, device status, backup and restore records, and change history. Your regular reviews show where the program stands.

SPRS score support

We help you calculate your score with the DoD assessment methodology and prepare the details for your SPRS entry. Your company enters the score and your senior official signs the affirmation, with a clear picture of the controls behind it.

Assessment-day prep

Before a self-assessment, a prime’s review, or a government assessment, we organize your evidence and walk your team through each control family. Joining you on assessment day to explain how the systems run can be part of the engagement.

How an engagement runs

How we work together

Review

You request a CMMC readiness review. We talk through your contracts, the clauses they include, the information you handle, and your deadlines.

Map

We identify which people, systems, and locations handle FCI or CUI, so the program covers the right systems and only those.

Assess

We run the gap assessment against NIST SP 800-171 and score it with you.

Plan

Together we draft the SSP and POA&M and set a work plan with priorities and dates.

Close the gaps

We implement the technical controls as part of Secure IT, and the documentation work continues in your CMMC compliance engagement.

Run and renew

We run the controls, keep the evidence current, and help you prepare for each annual affirmation and each assessment.

What you keep and what we run

You keep the compliance decisions. We run the technical controls.

How it fits with your plan

CMMC work on the same plan that runs your IT

The controls an assessor reviews are the systems your team uses every day, so we run them in the same relationship as your managed IT. CMMC compliance consulting (gap assessment, SSP and POA&M support, and readiness guidance) is a separate engagement on top of Secure IT. Implementing the technical controls is included in Secure IT.

Your designated contact keeps the work moving and brings you status on each control.

Example

A defense manufacturer, ready every day

Our CMMC experience includes a multi-state manufacturer in the defense supply chain with more than 150 users, a long-standing ALCON DTS client. We manage its IT and built and run its CMMC Level 2 program on top of it, including the system security plan, policies, evidence, and an incident response plan tested with leadership.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Since November 2025, DoD contracts can require a CMMC Level 1 or Level 2 self-assessment. In July 2026, DoD paused the move to third-party assessments while it reviews the program, and the NIST SP 800-171 requirements in DFARS 7012 stay in effect. Our CMMC guide tracks the latest status.

Your solicitation or subcontract sets it. Contracts that involve only FCI call for Level 1, and contracts that involve CUI call for Level 2 or higher. We help you read the clauses and match the work to your level.

Revision 2. CMMC Level 2 matches the 110 requirements in NIST SP 800-171 Revision 2, and DoD is enforcing Revision 2 today. We assess against Revision 2 and track any change DoD announces.

When a contract calls for one, a certification assessment comes from an authorized C3PAO (Level 2) or from DoD (Level 3). During DoD’s current program review, new contracts call for self-assessments, and DoD can still run its own assessments. ALCON DTS is not a C3PAO or assessor and does not certify anyone. We implement the controls, provide guidance, and prepare you for each assessment: we close the gaps, run the technical controls, and keep the evidence ready. Your company keeps the decisions, the affirmation, and the result.

The Supplier Performance Risk System (SPRS) is where DoD records your NIST SP 800-171 assessment score and your CMMC status. We help you calculate the score, document how you reached it, and raise it as gaps close.

For Level 2, some lower-weight items can go on a POA&M if your score meets the minimum, and those items need to be closed within 180 days. Level 1 calls for every safeguard to be met. We help you decide what to fix before your assessment and track the rest to closeout.

A senior official at your company affirms continued compliance in SPRS after each assessment and every year. We give that official a current, plain view of every control before they sign.
